The Wales Collaborative for Learning Design (WCLD) project is an inter-university project funded by Welsh Government. Currently, the following Welsh Universities are partners of the project:
- Aberystwyth University
- Bangor University
- Cardiff Metropolitan University
- Open University
- Swansea University
- University of South Wales
- University of Wales Trinity Saint David
- Wrexham University
Across the 8 university partners there are a number of academics and researchers. All members contribute to the project activity and provide a interdisciplinary perspective on technologies in learning and teaching. Currently, there are 29 representatives in total.

The project aims to examine learning design in synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning. The latest remit of the project started in April 2023 and focuses on:
- Develop Learning Labs to facilitate discussions and promotion of ideas around green screening, 360-degree video / augmented reality and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.
- Develop Learning Technology Labs [LTL] to allow ideas developed by teachers / lecturers on green screening, 360-degree video / augmented reality and Artificial Intelligence to feed into high tech outcomes.
These labs are collaborative spaces which provide opportunities for teachers and practitioners across Wales to work alongside HEI colleagues in exploring pedagogy and learning design. Further information regarding learning labs can be via the WCLD project Eventbrite page: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/wales-collaborative-learning-design-46410020863
The project involves expertise from across Wales and international contexts. The core project team consist of representatives from Cardiff Metropolitan University, Bangor University, Swansea University and University of Wales Trinity Saint David. This has since been expanded to involve 4 additional Welsh HEIs: University of South Wales, Aberystwyth University, Glyndŵr University and Open University.
In addition to the project team, international expertise is provided from the International Expert Group. This consists of the following members:
- Prof. Steve Higgins – (Durham University)
